# Sign up and sign in

> Create a Newly v2 account and sign in with an email code, Google or GitHub.

Newly v2, at app.newly.app and in Newly for Mac, uses one account for both. Sign in with the same email address in each, and you see the same projects.

## Ways to sign in

You can sign in with:

* **Email.** Enter your email address and press **Continue with email**. Newly emails you a 6-digit code. Enter it and press **Verify code**.
* **Google.** Press **Continue with Google**.
* **GitHub.** Press **Continue with GitHub**.

There are no passwords, so there's nothing to reset. If a code doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or press **Resend code**. To use a different address, press **Use another email**.

You can't sign in to Newly v2 with Apple.

<Tip>
  Use the same email address each time, on the web app and in the Mac app. A different email address is a different account, with its own projects and credits.
</Tip>

## Sign up for the first time

Signing up and signing in use the same form. The first time you sign in with a new email address, Newly creates your account.

1. Go to app.newly.app, or open Newly for Mac.
2. Press **Start building**, or **Sign in** if you already have a Newly v2 account.
3. Sign in with an email code, Google or GitHub.
4. Answer three short questions and read the short tour.
5. In the Mac app, you may also see a screen that offers to set up Xcode. To skip it for now, press **Set this up later**.

Then continue with [Build your first app](/get-started/quickstart). New accounts start with no credits, so you need a plan, a gift plan or credits from Newly before your first prompt. See [How credits work](/billing/how-credits-work).

## Signing up at newly.app instead

You can also sign up or log in on newly.app. Newly checks your email address first:

* If the address already belongs to a Newly v1 (legacy) account, you're signed in to Newly v1.
* Otherwise, you get a Newly v2 account and land on app.newly.app, already signed in.

If you go straight to app.newly.app or the Mac app, you always get a Newly v2 account, even if you also have a Newly v1 account. See [v1 vs v2: which one am I using?](/get-started/which-newly)

## If Newly sent you a gift link

Open the gift link in your browser. The sign-in screen shows "Sign in to claim one free month of Agent, worth \$25." Sign in, then press **Activate free month** on the next screen. You can claim a gift only if your account doesn't already have an active plan.

Gift links open in the web app. After you claim one, the credits are on your account in the Mac app too. See [Plans and top-ups](/billing/plans-and-top-ups).

## Your account details

In the web app, open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose **Account**. There you can:

* Change your **Display name**.
* See the email you're signed in with, and whether you signed in with email, Google or GitHub.

You can't change your email or sign-in method there. The Account dialog is only in the web app. In the Mac app, the same menu has **Billing** and **Sign out**. For account deletion, see [Delete a chat, project or account](/account/delete).

## Sign out

Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose **Sign out**. In the web app, signing out takes you back to newly.app.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="I see "Welcome back" and "You already have a Newly account. We sent a code to…"">
    You signed up on newly.app with an email that already has a Newly v1 (legacy) account, so newly.app is signing you in to Newly v1. To use Newly v2 with that email, go to app.newly.app and sign in there. Your Newly v1 and v2 accounts stay separate.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I signed in and my projects are missing">
    Check the address bar. If you're on app.newly.app, you're in Newly v2, and your Newly v1 projects don't appear there. They're still in Newly v1 at newly.app.

    If you're in Newly v2 and expect to see projects, make sure you signed in with the same email address as before. A different email address is a different account.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I can't find a password field or a forgot-password link">
    Newly v2 has no passwords. Sign in with an email code, Google or GitHub.
