Google Play publishing, the Deploy tab, push notifications, RevenueCat subscriptions
New features
- Publish to Google Play. Connect your Google Play account and Newly builds, signs and uploads your Android app to internal testing. From there you can release it to production. Start from the Deploy tab, or ask the agent in a Remote chat. Organization owners and admins can publish. See Google Play.
- The Deploy tab. Every project has a Deploy tab that walks you through TestFlight, App Store and Google Play releases step by step, with a readiness check at each step. Edit your store listing text there without using credits, and add, remove or reorder your store screenshots (adding files works in the web app). In Newly for Mac, turn on Developer mode in Settings to see it. See From TestFlight to the App Store.
- Push notifications. Ask for push notifications in a Remote chat and a card sets up OneSignal for you, no OneSignal account needed. Sign in with Apple for iPhone, connect Google for Android, then send a test. See Push notifications.
- Subscriptions with RevenueCat. Ask for a paywall in a Remote chat, sign in to RevenueCat from the card and set your price and an optional free trial. The agent sets up your products and adds the paywall. See In-app purchases.
- Download your Android APK. Ask the agent for your APK and a download card appears. Deploy > Android builds keeps every APK built for the project. (web) See Android APK.
- Delete your account. Delete your Newly v2 account from Account in the account menu. You have 30 days to sign back in and restore it. (web) See Delete your account.
Improvements
- Backend secrets in Settings. Add, update and remove your app’s backend secrets under Settings > Project > Backend secrets. See Production and secrets.
- Rename a project from Settings > Project.
- Rate replies. Give any agent reply a thumbs up or down, with an optional note.
- Clearer problems in chat. When a chat hits a problem you see one card that says what happened, with a Retry button when sending again can fix it.
Bug fixes
- Fixed messages sent while a chat was pausing never running, which left it stuck on “Working”.
- Fixed finished replies sometimes showing “The agent hasn’t sent any output”. Affected chats fix themselves when you open them.
- Fixed chats with many or large images not saving, which left them missing on your other devices. A chat opened on another device now shows your own messages and images too.
- Fixed TestFlight uploads failing for apps that use push notifications, Sign in with Apple or universal links.
- Fixed apps with a file over 10 MB, such as a video or a font pack, failing to publish.
- Fixed apps using Newly Backend rejecting requests from signed-in users.
- Fixed the preview button doing nothing on a finished chat until you sent another message.
Newly v2 opens to new sign-ups
Newly v2 is here
Newly v2 is available in the web app at app.newly.app and in Newly for Mac.New sign-ups at newly.app now get a Newly v2 account. If you already use Newly v1 (legacy), signing in at newly.app still takes you to Newly v1. Newly v1 and Newly v2 are separate, with their own accounts, projects, credits and plans. Not sure which one you use? See v1 vs v2: which one am I using?Highlights
- Cloud simulators for iOS and Android. The agent builds your app and runs it on a cloud iPhone and a cloud Android device, shown in the preview pane. There’s no QR code and nothing to install. See Previewing your app.
- Build, Plan and Ask. Build changes your app. Plan and Ask let you talk through an idea without changing code. See Build, Plan, Ask and Design.
- Credits based on the work done. Credits follow how much work the agent does, not the number of messages you send. See How credits work.
- Restore to here. Take your app’s code back to an earlier point in the chat. It changes your code, not your app’s data. See Undo and Restore to here.
- Ship to TestFlight from the chat. In a Remote chat, ask the agent to publish and a Ship to TestFlight card opens. Organization owners and admins can connect Apple there and upload an iOS build to TestFlight. See Ship your iOS app to TestFlight.
