Settings in Newly v2, at app.newly.app and in Newly for Mac, holds your project, agent and app preferences. Your account and billing open from a separate menu. See Account and billing below.

Open Settings

Press Settings in the sidebar. This works in the web app and in the Mac app. Use Search settings at the top to find a row. Some groups only appear in the Mac app, and some only appear when a project or chat is open.

What’s in each group

Project

Production branch promotes the latest changes from dev to main. Press Promote to main, read the confirmation, then press Promote dev to main. If no cloud project is open, you see “Open a cloud project to manage its production branch.”

Credentials (Mac)

On Mac, Credentials holds the keys the agent and its tools use, such as your own Claude or Codex login and an Expo token. The Screenshot art key row takes an OpenAI key, which the agent uses for store screenshot art and app icons in Local chats. See Local chats on your Mac. These keys aren’t for your app. To give your app an API key, see Production and secrets.

Publishing (Mac)

On Mac, Publishing shows your project’s Newly Backend status, with its dev addresses and a Refresh button. It also has a Repository row. See Data, accounts and Newly Backend. To send your iOS app to TestFlight, ask in the chat instead. See Ship your iOS app to TestFlight.

Developer mode

Developer mode is in Settings → General, described as “Show sessions, logs, and the full workspace.” It’s off by default. Turn it on if you want more detail about what’s running. With Developer mode on, the simple Undo button at the top of the window is hidden. Use Restore to here under a message instead. See Undo and Restore to here. On Mac, Developer mode also adds:
  • Plugins in the sidebar. Plugins apply to Local chats only.
  • App Logs in the preview pane for Local chats. Remote chats show App Logs in the Mac app whether or not Developer mode is on.
  • Move to cloud and Continue locally in a chat’s menu. See the next section.
Turning Developer mode off doesn’t change your projects or chats. It only changes what the app shows.

Move a chat between your Mac and the cloud

On Mac, with Developer mode on, a chat’s menu shows Move to cloud for a Local chat, or Continue locally for a Remote chat.
  1. Wait for the agent to finish. The option is hidden while a turn is running.
  2. Open the chat’s menu and choose Move to cloud or Continue locally.
  3. The chat parks first. Your next message resumes it in its new place.
To continue locally, the chat needs a folder on your Mac. See Projects, chats, Remote and Local.

Agent notifications (web app)

In the web app, Settings → General → Agent notifications notifies you whenever a turn finishes.
  1. Turn on Agent notifications.
  2. If your browser asks, allow notifications for app.newly.app. If the row shows Allow browser, press it. If the row says notifications are blocked in browser settings, allow them in your browser’s site settings.
  3. Press Send test. You have 3 seconds to switch to another app, then a test notification is sent.
If you don’t see a banner, check your computer’s Focus or notification settings.

App updates (Mac)

On Mac, Settings → General shows App updates with a button to check for or install an update. Install updates automatically downloads updates in the background and installs them when you quit. Critical updates install either way. See The web app and Newly for Mac.

Account and billing

Your account and billing aren’t Settings groups. Open them from the account menu: press your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  • Account (web app): change your display name and see how you signed in.
  • Billing: your credits, plan and payment details. See How credits work and Change, cancel or manage your plan.
  • Open in browser (Mac app): opens Newly in your web browser.
  • Sign out.
