When your organization’s balance runs out, Newly stops the agent and keeps everything it has done so far. This page shows what you see and how to continue.
Before your first message
A new account starts with 0 credits, unless Newly has given you credits or a gift plan. You can’t create a project or send a message to Newly Agent until your organization has credits. Local chats on your Mac that use your own Claude or Codex login aren’t blocked.
- Owners and admins: when you send your first message, Billing opens with “Pick a plan to start building with Newly.” Pick a plan to continue. See Plans and top-ups.
- Members: you see “Your organization needs a plan” and “Ask an admin or owner of your organization to pick one.”
No empty project is created while you’re choosing.
During a turn
If credits run out while the agent is working, the run stops and the chat shows:
“You’re out of credits, so this run stopped here. Everything so far is saved.”
Select Buy more credits → to open Billing.
If you see an error mentioning 402, you’re out of credits or have hit a usage limit. Add credits, or try again later.
Continue where the agent stopped
Add credits
Open Billing from the account footer menu. Start or upgrade a plan on the Plans tab, or buy a top-up on the Add credits tab.
Go back to the same chat
The work the agent finished before it stopped is saved in your project.
Send another message
Ask the agent to continue. It picks up from the saved state of your project.
If you’re a member
Only owners and admins can buy credits. Members see “Ask an admin or owner of your organization to add credit.” Ask one of them to add credits, then send another message.
In Local chats (Mac)
In a Local chat, you can connect your own Claude or Codex login instead of using credits. The out-of-credits card shows “Already pay for Claude or Codex? Use it here, free.” Local chats on your own login don’t draw down credits. See Local chats on your Mac.
When your app’s AI requests run out
If your app uses AI models, its requests are paid from the same balance. When the balance is too low, those requests fail with:
“Your Newly credits are too low for this request.”
Add credits and the requests work again. See AI features in your app.
Messages that aren’t about your balance
Some messages look similar but don’t mean you’re out of credits, such as “App AI is temporarily at capacity.” and “The App AI request limit has been reached. Try again later.” Adding credits doesn’t clear these. For what each one means, see Messages your app may receive and Messages explained. If one keeps happening, contact support. See Getting help.
If your card is declined on renewal
When a plan renewal fails, no new plan credits are added until the payment goes through.
Owners and admins get an email that says “Your card was declined”, with an Update payment method button. Update your card so the payment can go through. See Change, cancel or manage your plan.
If payment keeps failing, the email eventually says “We have stopped retrying, so your plan is ending.”
Spending limits
There’s no setting to cap how many credits your organization spends. To keep an eye on usage, check your balance in the account footer or in Billing. See How credits work for ways to spend less.
