In Newly v2, the cloud simulators are the preview. There’s no QR code, no Expo Go link and no preview build you can download and install on a phone. To try your app on a real iPhone, send it to TestFlight.

On an iPhone: use TestFlight

TestFlight is Apple’s app for installing test versions of iOS apps. Newly builds your app, signs it and uploads it to Apple for you.

Before you start

You need a paid Apple Developer Program membership, and only an organization owner or admin can connect Apple and publish. Publishing works from a Remote chat. For the full list, see Before you start on the TestFlight page.

Send your app to TestFlight

1

Ask the agent

In a Remote chat, ask the agent to “publish to TestFlight”. The Ship to TestFlight card opens in the chat.
2

Connect Apple and upload

Follow the card to connect your Apple Developer account, then press Build & upload to TestFlight. See Ship your iOS app to TestFlight and Connect Apple and manage signing.
3

Wait for Apple

When the card shows ”✓ Uploaded to TestFlight”, Apple may still be processing the build. Testers can’t install it until Apple is done.
4

Install it on your iPhone

Press Open App Store Connect and add yourself as a tester. Then install the TestFlight app from the App Store on your iPhone and open your app from there. For testers and the next steps, see From TestFlight to the App Store.
Building and uploading to TestFlight doesn’t draw down credits. The agent’s messages in the chat do.

On an Android phone

Newly v2 doesn’t produce Android builds you can install on a phone or upload to Google Play. There’s no APK or AAB to download. To test the Android version of your app, use the Android cloud simulator (“Pixel 8 - Android”). See Using the cloud simulators.

Why there’s no Expo Go or QR code

Your previews are builds of your own app, with your app’s native code inside. Expo Go can only run the packages it ships with, so it can’t show your app the way the cloud simulators do. Newly builds your app for you instead. See Native builds and packages.

Troubleshooting

There isn’t one. Previews run on the cloud simulators in the preview pane. For an iPhone, use TestFlight as described above.
Only organization owners and admins can connect Apple and publish. Ask an owner or admin of your organization to publish, or to change your role.
No. There’s no Newly phone app to download. Use the web app at app.newly.app or Newly for Mac.
